Patient Programs - Family Services - Caregiver Resources

The Parkinson's Disease Association of San Diego (PDASD) works closely with the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) to offer a number of services throughout San Diego County to Parkinson's patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. With more than 60,000 family members and Parkinson's patients in San Diego County affected by Parkinson, PDASD works hard to raise funds to help these families maintain their quality of life. We have a notable history of funding promising medical research through local institutions such as the Salk, Burnham, and Scripps Research institutes as well as the University of California, San Diego. To date, PDASD has donated over $1 million dollars to research projects seeking more effective treatments and a cure for Parkinson's.

Stem Cell Research

Scientists Turn Mouse Skin Cells into Functional Neurons: U.S. scientists said they were able to directly turn ordinary skin cells derived from a mouse into brain cells, called "induced neuronal cells," by using three genes or transcription factors. The technique might some day help treat Parkinson's disease and other brain conditions by transforming a patient's skin cells into transplantable neurons.
