Young Onset Parkinson Resource Center

"The Parkinsons Disease Association of San Diego has been invaluable for me as a young Parkinsonian in terms of its wide array of free services. As a recent DBS patient, PDASD had put me in touch with other DBS patients who have shared details of their recovery which has been priceless. I am proud to say that I support this group of dedicated, passionate professionals." - Randy W.

Creating a healthy network of friends as well as knowing how to access community resources is particularly important for young people whose lives have been touched by Parkinson's. We know that every Young Onset Parkinsonian faces a unique set of challenges. For example, those needing understanding, those looking for alternative health therapies, or those searhing for career and financial planning guidance. The Parkinson's Disease Association of San Diego offers a wide variety of resources to help you move forward with confidence and courage to live your life to the fullest.

We believe it is essential for young people with Parkinson’s disease and their families to have updated information about the unique aspects of young onset Parkinson’s disease. It is that belief which led to the publication of this new edition of the Young Parkinson’s Handbook. This book was written with the goals of answering your questions and providing information that will help you navigate your way through the maze of medical, psychological, and financial issues you and your family may encounter. It is our hope that you will be able to use this handbook as a reference, and return to it again and again as you explore different subjects over time. As you read this handbook, keep in mind that Parkinson’s disease affects each person differently. Because the information presented is meant to be broad and inclusive, and because symptoms vary from person to person, not all information will apply to you or your current circumstances. This handbook is a guide for Parkinson’s disease patients and their families and is not intended as a substitute for medical diagnosis and treatment.
